Post caps 12x12 cm (120x120 mm) – The perfect finish for solid posts

Maximum value retention for carports and heavy timber fences in V2A stainless steel, galvanised or anthracite.
Wooden posts measuring 12x12 cm form the foundation of solid structures such as carports, patio canopies or large gate systems. Effectively protect these valuable structural timbers from weathering with our 120x120 mm post caps . Choose from our durable materials: high-grade stainless steel (polished or brushed), robust galvanised steel or modern anthracite (RAL 7016) . Available as individual items or in a value pack of 10 for complete construction projects.

Why is protection essential for 12x12 cm posts?

A 12x12 cm (120x120 mm) post has a very large end-grain surface (cut surface at the top). Without a cover, this surface acts like a giant sponge, drawing water deep into the wood with every rain shower.

As 12x12 cm posts usually serve load-bearing functions in carports or canopies, rot is particularly dangerous here and replacement is extremely labour-intensive and expensive. Our 12x12 cm post cap is affordable insurance for your structure: it drains water away and ensures that the post remains dry from above.

Buying guide: Questions & answers about 120x120 mm caps

Here we clarify the most important details for your building project.

➔ Do the caps fit glued laminated timber (BSH) and KVH?

Yes. Solid structural timber (KVH) and glued laminated timber (BSH) are often used in the 120 x 120 mm size. Our caps are designed precisely for this and have an internal dimension of approx. 121 x 121 mm.

Important: Please measure your posts before ordering. Older, rough-sawn posts sometimes have different dimensions. Our caps fit perfectly on planed standard timber (12x12).

➔ Which material for carports & driveways?

As carport posts are often positioned directly in the driveway and are clearly visible, appearance plays a major role. We offer three options:

  • V2A stainless steel (The Exclusive): Particularly popular with modern homes. You can choose between a polished (glossy) finish or the matt, brushed version. Stainless steel is completely maintenance-free and does not rust.
  • Anthracite RAL 7016 (The Architectural): Many modern carports are now painted grey or white, or feature an anthracite steel roof. Our powder-coated caps blend in seamlessly here.
  • Galvanised Steel (The Sturdy Option): If functional protection is the priority or if the wood is to weather naturally, the hot-dip galvanised cap is the most robust and cost-effective solution.

➔ Are sets worth it for this size?

Definitely. A free-standing single carport usually has 6 to 8 posts, a double carport often more. With our sets of 10 for 120x120 mm, you’ll have enough caps for the entire project and often some to spare for any fence connections – at a great price.

➔ Installation tip for large caps

Due to their large surface area, 120 mm caps should always be securely screwed in place. Each cap has two side drill holes. Use these for permanent fixing with stainless steel screws. Do not glue the cap airtight so that the solid timber underneath can breathe.
