Wrought iron and steel handrails – safe guidance with style

Handrails are key elements in staircases, balustrades and open staircases – they provide structure, safety and comfort. The FeNau range features high-quality wrought iron and steel handrails in various lengths, diameters and designs. Whether you are designing classic stair railings or modern metal structures – handrails form the connecting element between technology and design.

Applications for handrails

Handrails are used wherever people move about and need a secure grip. They combine function and design and are indispensable in many environments:

  • Indoor and outdoor stair railings: Secure support when ascending and descending, as well as harmonious integration into the architecture.
  • Balconies and terraces: Handrails complement railings and ensure accessibility and comfort.
  • Ramps and entrance areas: In addition to fall protection, they provide guidance and safety.
  • Public spaces & buildings: In entrance areas, catering establishments or commercial premises, handrails ensure user-friendliness and guidance in accordance with standards.

Material: S235JR steel – robust, weldable, versatile

The handrails in the FeNau range are predominantly made from S235JR steel. This structural steel is particularly popular because it combines good strength, excellent weldability and high formability. This is a major advantage, particularly for applications in metal construction: S235JR can be optimally adapted, welded and further processed – whether for classic stair railings or handcrafted metal structures.

As the steel is supplied in its raw state, handrails can be individually treated after installation, e.g. by galvanising or painting, to provide lasting protection against the elements and enhance their appearance.

Styles & Designs

The wide range of handrails at FeNau caters to a variety of needs – from functional to decorative:

  • Straight, classic handrails: Particularly suitable for stair railings and straight sections.
  • Curved, profiled handrails: For transitions, landings or ramps with changes in direction.
  • Can be combined with railing components: Suitable for decorative bars, intermediate bars or fence elements.
  • Different diameters: For a secure, comfortable grip on every step and surface.

Installation & Application Notes

Handrails are usually installed using brackets – both for welding and for screwing. Tailored to the railing profile, brackets ensure a precisely defined distance from the wall or the staircase. Thanks to their good weldability, handrails can be flexibly connected to existing metal structures.

When planning handrails, DIN 18065 should be observed: it specifies the recommended height of the handrail and the distance from the wall. This ensures both safe use and a standard-compliant installation.

Form & Function – Technology Meets Design

Wrought iron and steel handrails are more than mere functional elements: they contribute significantly to the overall aesthetic of a staircase or balustrade. In combination with other wrought iron elements such as decorative bars, decorative grilles or Baroque ornamentation, complex, high-quality-looking metal structures are created, which meet both technical and design requirements.

Thanks to the wide variety of designs and flexible finishing options, handrails can be perfectly adapted to any project style – from classic-rustic to modern-industrial.
