90° pipe elbow, Type 3: The industry standard for pipes and railings

If you are looking for a ‘standard’ welded elbow, you have come to the right place. The 90° pipe elbow, Type 3 (formerly DIN 2605, now EN 10253) is the absolute classic in steel and plant engineering. With its standard radius of r ≈ 1.5 x outer diameter, it offers the perfect balance between space requirements and flow characteristics. At FeNau GmbH, you can purchase this all-rounder made from high-quality steel in its raw (black) state – seamless, dimensionally accurate and ready for welding straight away.

What does "Type 3" (Type 3D) mean?

The designation "Type 3" defines the geometry of the bend. It is by far the most commonly used shape. The formula is: Radius = approx. 1.5 x diameter.

An example: A pipe with a diameter of 42.4 mm (1 ¼ inches) has a radius of approx. 60–64 mm as a Type 3 bend. Are you looking for a tighter bend? Then take a look at our Type 2 (short radius) .

Perfect for railing fabricators and welders

Our steel bends are specially designed for further processing. As we supply them in the “raw steel” finish, you benefit from key advantages:

  • No preparatory work: You do not need to grind off a zinc coating. The chamfers are clean and ready for welding.
  • Finishing: Once welded into a railing or pipework, the component can easily be hot-dip galvanised, powder-coated or painted.
  • Appearance: The standard radius creates a harmonious and pleasing look on handrails and corner joints.

Frequently asked questions about 90° standard bends (Type 3)

Do these bends comply with DIN 2605?

Yes, the old DIN 2605 is still often used colloquially. Technically speaking, our fittings comply with the current European standard EN 10253 (Type 3D). The dimensions are compatible, so you can easily integrate them into existing plans.

Are the bends seamless or welded?

In this category, we mainly stock seamless pipe bends. These are manufactured from a single piece, which guarantees a more homogeneous structure without a longitudinal seam. This ensures higher pressure resistance and a cleaner finish when sanding in railing construction.

How do I determine the correct diameter?

In steel construction, measurements are often discussed in inches but taken in millimetres. A 33.7 mm elbow corresponds to 1 inch, a 42.4 mm elbow corresponds to 1 ¼ inches and a 48.3 mm elbow corresponds to 1 ½ inches. Always measure the outer diameter of your connecting pipe.
