Why a 7x7 cm post cap is so important

Wooden posts measuring 7x7 cm (often referred to as 70x70 mm square timber) are the standard for lighter garden structures. They are used for hunter’s fences, low front garden fences or trellises. As these posts are thinner than the larger 9x9 cm variants, rot penetrates deep into the structure even faster via the unprotected end grain.

A precisely fitting 7x7 post cap effectively prevents rainwater from penetrating. You avoid having to replace the posts prematurely and maintain the stability of your fence in the long term.

➔ Will the cap fit my 70 mm square timber?

Yes, absolutely. A standard “7x7 post” usually has actual dimensions of approx. 70 x 70 mm. Our caps are manufactured with internal dimensions of approx. 71 x 71 mm.

Why slightly larger? Wood is a natural product that can swell slightly when exposed to moisture (“warp”). The 1 mm clearance ensures that you can fit the cap on easily without damaging the wood and provides minimal rear ventilation.

➔ Which material suits my front garden?

We offer three options, all of which are extremely weather-resistant:

• V2A stainless steel (The Premium Option): Particularly popular in front gardens intended to make a statement. Choose between polished (glossy) or brushed (matt). Stainless steel does not rust and complements almost any type of wood.
• Galvanised steel (The Classic): Hot-dip galvanising offers excellent rust protection at an affordable price. This finish is the standard for classic wooden fences or paddock fences.
• Anthracite RAL 7016 (The Modern): If you want to add a modern touch or have fittings in dark grey. The powder coating offers double protection and a premium feel.

➔ Buy individually or as a set?

Especially with hunting fences or long property boundaries, you can quickly end up with a lot of posts. That’s why we also offer our 7x7 post caps as a set of 10. This allows you to fit your entire fence cost-effectively and uniformly.

➔ What is the best way to fit the caps?

Installation takes just a few minutes. Each cap has drill holes on the sides. 1. Place the cap onto the dry end grain.
2. Secure it at the sides using two suitable screws (we recommend stainless steel screws to prevent rust marks).
Important: Please do not glue them in place! Screwing them in is perfectly sufficient and allows the wood to breathe.
