Why are caps particularly important for 10x10 cm posts?

Wooden posts measuring 10x10 cm (100x100 mm) are more solid than standard posts and often serve as load-bearing elements in a structure – for example, in entrance gates, corner posts of privacy fences or sturdy pergolas. Due to the larger cross-sectional area, the upper end grain here provides an even greater surface area for rain and snow to penetrate.

Without protection, water penetrates deeply, which can be disastrous for load-bearing posts. A precisely fitting 10x10 post cap does not seal this surface, but safely channels moisture away and, through rear ventilation, ensures that your post remains stable for decades.

➔ Will the cap fit my 10x10 timber?

Please check the measurements: Standard “10x10” square timber usually has actual dimensions of 100 x 100 mm. Our caps are precisely tailored to this and have internal dimensions of approx. 101 x 101 mm.

This minimal clearance of 1 mm is technically necessary. Wood expands when wet. If the cap were too tight, it would constrict the wood or cause cracks. This means it can be easily fitted yet still sits securely.

➔ Which material do you recommend?

As 10x10 posts often feature prominently in the garden, appearance is crucial. We stock three high-quality variants:

• V2A stainless steel (Premium): You can choose between a high-gloss polished or a matt finish . Stainless steel is completely rust-free and looks very elegant and high-quality on thick posts.
• Anthracite RAL 7016 (Modern): Perfect for new builds. The powder-coated surface in dark grey complements modern windows, doors or double-bar fences in the same shade perfectly.
• Galvanised steel (Robust): The classic choice for wooden fences. Thanks to hot-dip galvanisation, the cap is extremely durable and withstands all weather conditions. Ideal when functionality and value for money are the main priorities.

➔ Are there value packs for 10x10 caps?

Yes. Although 10x10 posts are often used less frequently than the thinner variants, buying in a set is worthwhile for larger projects (e.g. a complete paddock fence). We offer our 100x100 mm caps in sets of 10, allowing you to save significantly compared to buying them individually.

➔ How do I secure the cap?

Each cap has two side fixing holes. Place the cap on the post and secure it with two suitable screws (ideally roofing screws with a sealing washer or stainless steel screws). Avoid ‘simply’ gluing the cap in place with silicone – screwing it on is more durable and allows for vital air circulation beneath the cap.
