Uncoated steel pipe bend: Untreated and ideal for welding

For professional welding work in pipework, railing and steel construction, the material properties are crucial. Our steel pipe bends (raw, black) are deliberately left untreated. For you, this means: No tedious removal of zinc coatings or paintwork. You receive a pure steel bend, ready for further processing straight away. This welded bend offers the ideal conditions for a clean, uniform weld and long-lasting stability.

Why "raw steel" is the best choice for welders

An untreated pipe bend is the standard for high-quality joints. As there is no surface coating, the arc can ignite directly without producing toxic fumes (as with galvanised material) or contaminating the seam with foreign substances. Our welded fittings in accordance with DIN 2605 / EN 10253 guarantee the highest dimensional accuracy for a precise fit at the pipe ends.

Available designs and radii

We stock seamless pipe bends in various geometries, suitable for any installation situation:

  • Type 3 (standard radius r ≈ 1.5xD): The all-rounder in plant engineering. Perfect balance between flow characteristics and space requirements.
  • Type 2 (short radius r ≈ 1.0xD): Ideal when every millimetre counts. Compact pipe bends for confined machine rooms.
  • Type 5 (Large radius r ≈ 2.5xD): For flow-optimised piping with minimal pressure loss.

Frequently asked questions about our steel pipe bends (FAQ)

What are ‘raw steel’ pipe bends used for?

These steel bends are ideal for all structures that are welded and subsequently painted, powder-coated or galvanised. Typical applications include railing construction, exhaust systems, traditional pipework and mechanical engineering structures.

Are the welded bends seamless or welded?

Our range consists mainly of seamless pipe bends. These can withstand higher pressures and offer a more homogeneous material structure than welded variants, which is particularly important for pressure vessels.

How do I prepare the untreated elbow for welding?

As the pipe bend is supplied in its raw state, it may develop a light film of rust (normal for untreated steel). We recommend briefly cleaning the chamfered ends with a wire brush to ensure a pore-free weld.

Which standards do these fittings comply with?

Our products comply with European standards. We supply pipe bends in accordance with EN 10253 (formerly DIN 2605). The design types (Type 2, 3, 5) precisely define the bend radius.
